After two weeks of crashing at my parents’ house, our apartment in town was ready. We were certainly ready to move in to our own space and escape typical suburban USA.

When we decided to move back to my hometown during our transition to full time RV life, we knew we wanted to rent a furnished apartment or townhome. The whole process of furnishing a place and later needing to sell everything off was just too much to take on for a short six month stay. We found our apartment via AirBnb and so far are very happy with the place.

It’s in the heart of the “downtown” area of Winchester, Virginia. I put that in quotes because compared to Minneapolis and Padova, this downtown is teeny tiny. I actually overheard a man while out on the main street say to his wife “This is a cute little village.” Yes. It feels that way to us too. Yet at the same time it feels more like a city than most of the area here and has helped us a bit with our transition.

We can walk to a good variety of restaurants, cute shops, art galleries, and most importantly, the library. We have a Dollar General store close by we can stop by when we’re in a pinch for something and don’t want to make the drive to Target or a grocery store.

The building we live in was built in 1757. Yes. Before America. It’s the oldest house we’ve ever lived in. The owners have fixed it up well we’re happy to call this place home for a few months. While the place is fully furnished, we’ve packed away a few of the owner’s decorations and kitchen supplies to put out and use our own in an attempt to make it feel more like ours.

We’re settling in and adjusting to life here in my hometown for the next six months.
